Over the years travelling I have collected dollars and over time its added up to a thousand dollars - now whats the best way to convert those into pounds? It's in notes. I want to reduce the cost of transaction fees as much as possible.

HSBC's currency account combined with its GMA account might be the best.
Barclays also has a currency account which allows USD note deposits but I'm not sure where you go from there.0 -
A grand worth isn't a large amount. I say the best way is to get some good advance rates from regular exchange shops and collect your sterling from there. MSE has a nice tool for searching for the best quotes.bigpappa said:Over the years travelling I have collected dollars and over time its added up to a thousand dollars - now whats the best way to convert those into pounds? Just use a normal currency exchange provider. As above check around.
Some give you a good rate but charge a commission and some give your a reduced rate with no commission. Some do both !
From a recent transaction you should be able to keep the take down to 3% ish, but can be a LOT more.0 -
