Hi there,

My daughter parked in Birmingham's Grand Central Car Park a couple of weeks ago and has now received a parking charge through the post for £100 (£60 if paid in 14 days).

She has told us that the barriers were up both on entry and exit, no ticket was given at entry and that there was a list of parking charges displayed but no machines to pay (I did say, perhaps you pay on an app).  So she just left the car park.

Does anyone know if this parking charge stands please?

Thanks.

How long was her car there?

She needs to read the NEWBIES sticky thread.  We deal with Britannia all the time.  We don't tell anyone to pay.

I have read through the Newbies thread and it’s still not clear what the next step is to be honest. Daughter is 19 and won’t understand it either.

Entered at 10:12 and exited at 11:36.

There’s appeals information on the back of the letter. The 14 days will be up on the 19th May, as it says from date of issue and the letter is dated 5th May, but didn’t arrive until 12th.

The NEWBIES thread has clear Q&A and a template appeal.  But you are now saying she didn't go in, see there were no machines and left.  She stayed over an hour without paying?

I don’t know what you mean. She came back after shopping and couldn’t see anywhere to pay and there wasn’t anyone around anyone to ask. She didn’t intentionally try and park there for free.

There is some confusion in your statements:
She has told us that the barriers were up both on entry and exit, no ticket was given at entry and that there was a list of parking charges displayed but no machines to pay (I did say, perhaps you pay on an app).  So she just left the car park.
Entered at 10:12 and exited at 11:36.
Those times suggest that she didn't "just leave the car park" but rather her car remained there for 1 hour and 24 minutes.

The advice still stands about reading the Newbies/FAQ thread to understand what this is all about and how you should go forwards. Please keep referring back to that thread every time you have a question as it should be used as your go-to reference.

The 14 days will be up on the 19th May, as it says from date of issue and the letter is dated 5th May, but didn’t arrive until 12th.
As explained in the Newbies/FAQ thread, the 14-day bribe discount is there to make it easy for these scammers to get some of your money rather than risk you appealing and them not getting anything. No one on here advises anyone to pay the scammers when the vast majority of PCNs issued by unregulated private parking companies, like Britannia, are defendable.

    I don't see a defence.

I meant she left the car park because there was nowhere to pay. What exactly was she supposed to do? I am not disputing she was there for the time stated.

I have read through the template and it is asking for images of the vehicle (this has been provided on the letter).

I am not saying she’s not at fault. I just need to know what to do.

She should have read the signs and paid by whatever method was stated - an app? - or immediately left the car park to avoid the £100 contract. By staying, and leaving her car there, she's accepted that contract.

Private car parks are ANPR traps.  Avoid them and park on street wherever possible.

Or only use Council car parks (no ANPR).
