Moving from TalkTalk.

Hi
We have been with TalkTalk for many years now but think it is time to move to a new supplier. Our internet is really slow and when l asked them they said it was our equipment - laptop is almost a year old and the TV about 18 months old (it shows when the internet drops in and out and this can be every few seconds some day when we aren't even using the internet) so don't think that can be right.
We currently have our broadband via our telephone cable even though it is said to be fibre and we have a phone line which we don't use often but it is easier for older relatives to contact us.
We have recently had CityFibre installed in our area and wondering if they are worth changing to? I am not sure if we can have fibre through their cable and still have a phone line and if they are the best supplier?
Any advice would be very much appreciated as l have spent ages trying to work out what it the best way to go. If we don't get a phone line it probably isn't the end of the work just really looking for a good deal which doesn't drop out especially as OH would like to work from home a little more but this is a problem with our current drop out problem.
Many thanks

CityFibre I believe is FTTH, so there would be no phone line. You'd have to use either a mobile or a VOIP phone/VOIP setup to make/receive calls. With regards to the existing setup, get a network cable and run it from the laptop to the router (turn wireless off) and see how things go. If it improves and is faster and is more stable, then your problem is not with your "internet" as such, its with your connection to the router. Wi-fi speeds are out of control to an extent from the provider. However if you run the network cable and its still slow then find out what your minimum guaranteed speed should be for your lime and if you're not getting it, raise it as a fault with TalkTalk. If you have a fault on your line that's causing the speed to drop it doesn't matter which BT line based provider you join, the fault will continue on all of fthem, so you'd be cutting off your nose to spite your face as it were.1
