• I have a netgear router and when I tried to use an encryption code my laptop was fine but my sons xbox wouldn't accept the key. Does anyone know why this should be please?

What operating system is in use on your son's machine? Needs to be XP SP2 or above to use WPA-PSK.

Alternatively try using a HEX string from here but remove the last character. e.g. 63 chars.

  • I'm not sure to be honest, i'll have a look tonight. It's quite a modern xbox 360 and i'm sure it recognised that a WPA PSK encryption was required to be entered but it wouldn't have it when I tried. Perhaps I should try WEP instead

I'm sure that I've read that the xbox does not support WPA encryption, therefore it can't connect to a wireless router with WPA enabled.

Yes you are right, I was thinking of the Nintendo DS. The xbox does need a HEX passphrase when using either WEP or WPA.
