sorry to be a pain !
i have got a new acer wireless enabled laptop. i currently am using a wired adsl thomson speedtouch connection box to access my orange broadband internet on my desktop.
i have bought a netgear dg834g and i wish to get started . i connect up the router and pull out the adsl speedtouch cable and put in the netgear one and it disconnects me from the internet so i cant install my netgear .
i'm sure it's something obvious but i am confused . the computer is looking for a speedtouch connection to go online so how do i go online without that being the case ?

You need to configure the Netgear using the Ethernet cable (username/password etc.) and then move the phone cable from the Speedtouch to the Netgear.
Try reading the user manual. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
