As above you need to encrypt it, otherwise anybody and everybody will be using your connection. Then you'd end up complaining that you connection is slow and blame your ISP when it's just that all your neighbours are using your connection.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I would also change the password or someone could change it all.

Don't change the admin (it may not let you anyway) just the password.

And make sure you write it down somewhere.
• all going to plan until it has asked for my WPA-PSK Security Encryption network key using ASC11 characters !!

what happened to good old plain english ?

• if you can type in any word why does it not work and nothing happens ,or it asks for a user name and password then nothing happens !!
• what are you expecting to happen, what is asking for username and password? Did you click apply

if you want the password (encryption key) to be christmastree

type christmastree into the Network Key (8 ~ 63 characters) box, then click apply.

then on the laptop, find the netgear ssid in the wireless scanner, click connect, and enter christmastree password

• thankyou

my problem now is this

on switching on my laptop it doesn't request the security password until i attempt to access the internet then it comes up that there is a connection problem and i have to press the diagnose problem link before i get the option to put in my security netgear password ,

is there an easier way of getting straight to the password entering stage ?

thanks

You need to go into your wireless network properties and ensure that "Connect when this network is in range" is checked.
