Internet on benefits

Options
Good morning, my wife contacted Vida phone about getting our bill reduced as we are on benefits, we got told by vodafone that due to us signing the contract and not letting them know we was claiming benefits (which we didn’t know we had to) we cannot reduce our bill. We also said that we could leave our contract without any charge but got told it would cost us £255 to leave early Has anyone else had this problem?

Some providers have social tariffs for customers that are on certain benefits , some don’t , you would have to look at the Vodafone T&C’s to see what they offer and what criteria needs to be met to qualify for theirs.
It would be odd to have a social tariff but not let their customers that we’re not in receipt of benefits when they joined VF , but their circumstances have changed and they now do qualify but because they are still within the minimum term of the original deal, VF don’t allow them benefit from this social tariff that they now qualify for.
You probably should read all the info about this from their website , then you can challenge the customer service rep , if they state things that don’t match up with the T&C’s , some frankly don’t know what they are talking about and just make stuff up to get you off the phone.
TBH , it’s reasonable that they probably won’t back date anything , so if you qualified months ago for this reduction in price , but only just contacted them , that just the way it is , once you advise them ( and prove you are  in receipt of the qualifying benefits) that’s when the savings start , not before.

Looking at VF T&C’s it states new and existing customers, so even if you are an existing customer within a minimum term , if you qualify then they should move you onto that  tariff , and there is no early termination charges because you remain a VF customer
TBH , suggesting they move to another companies social tariff will mean VF raise ETC , and that’s presumably what the OP wants to avoid
