No proof of debt from creditor - what do I do now

Hi, I requested proof of the debt from a creditors solicitor 8 weeks ago, they said it would take 6 weeks and I still haven't received anything. I've tried calling but the queue is long and the music annoying. I'm guessing I should now write to them and ask them to remove the debt from my credit record, but could someone please help me with the wording?
The letter was from Kearns solicitors, and I think Link Financial were the ones chasing

Anymore details? Who was the original creditor what for and what date was the default?
Unless you know it isn’t yours I would leave it. It’s up to them to answer your request. There’s a few more stages to to it’s not a cut and dry case; they can find agreements and such.

What's the rest of the story, i.e. do you owe the debt, is anyone chasing it, is it statute barred, etc, etc?0

Ah okay that’s a different story.
Is the debt with Barclays still? I.e are the company chasing on their behalf or do they now own the debt?

Might be worth sending a complaint to them & Barclays stating his debt isn’t yours & you demand it’s removed from your file. I’m sure Sourcrates will be along with better advice but I’d give a read of debtcamel’s page above and take it from there.

You have asked for evidence, so Link will be trying to obtain proof of your liability from the original creditor, now this can take quite some time, could be months before you hear anything, so some degree of patience is required.
Its best to wait and see what they send you, then you can take the matter further if necessary.
If this really is nothing to do with you, and mis-traces are common, it can all be put right, but for now just wait and see what happens.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. You still haven't told us the date of the default. If it's approaching 6 years then there is little point in worrying about it now, and it doesn't appear to have impacted your creditworthiness thus far?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Barclays underwrote a lot of loans. Does that make any sense?
