Internal US flight query, San Antonio, TX to San Jose, CA

Options
Anyone have any insights on this. Trying to get from San Antonio, TX to San Jose, CA in mid August and back again a few days later.

The best option I can find is flying from Dallas to San Francisco which is doable but looking for a better option. I've tried loads of different searches using adjacent airports, different days, etc but nothing else coming up.

I'm happy to look at any connecting rail possibilities, I know there are some in California but not many cross country ones. Also open to any other ideas to keep costs down but not any that end up in excessive time.

Southwest fly from Austin to San Jose
United fly from San Antonio to San Francisco

Or Southwest have flights SAT to SJC on Southwest with one stop in a selection of different places, including Phoenix and Las Vegas

A cross country rail journey of that length in the US will be measured in days and wouldn't be particularly cheap.  Might be a great experience but not what you're after based on time/cost.

In addition to @jackieblack suggestions, Alaska Airlines also fly Austin-San Jose direct.  Or there will be any number of one-stop connecting options via a nunber of hubs with many different airlines

It looks as if there is a better choice of flights to SFO.  SFO to San Jose is straightforward by public transport - Red line to Millbrae (just a few minutes) and then the train to San Jose.  The total journey time is a little over an hour and trains are quite frequent.
