No claims discount evidence

New to car insurance in my own name as have always been the named driver on late husband's policy.
I have had my own insurance for last year and have now switched to a new provider for a better offer.
New company want some sort of evidence that I have made no claims in the last year.
How can I get this as old company have no e-mail address and new company want electronic documentary evidence? Thank you.

If you had a renewal letter from the original insurer that should show how many years NCD you have.  If you have that, photograph it and send that to the new insurer.

    I tried that @TELLIT01.
They didn't accept that as the date of the letter was approx 3-4 weeks prior to policy expiring so, presumably, they think I could have made a claim in that period.
I can't log in to old insurers website as I now don't have any policies with them.

The new insurer is being unreasonable.  Every renewal letter has to be sent out in advance of the end date, therefore there will always be that risk.  Your old insurer must have either a telephone number, e-mail or postal address.

Make a complaint.   It is standard practice to use the renewal letter as evidence of your no claims discount.   As above, it is the new insurer being unreasonable.

Just back to say thank you @TELLIT01 and @dunstonh.
Resubmitted renewal letter, as before, with a note pointing out need for advance dates on renewal letters and the unreasonableness of not accepting it given that it is "standard practice" within the insurance industry.
Emailed me back to say thank you for submitting your evidence!
    Thanks again.

It is normal practice to use the renewal letter but in theory they are absolutely correct, you could have had an incident and simply not reported until after the renewal was generated. Its a risk most insurers are willing to live with esp now that many insurers (but not so many brokers) now subscribe to an NCD db

All brokers/insurers will issue you a "proof of NCD" after the policy lapses on request, similarly if you cancel it early so have no renewal letter to use. Tends to be a one line letter.
