Strikes in Germany

Options
Hi, this is my first ever post I would like some help please. I was in Germany for a short trip last month. Whilst there my return flight was cancelled due to strikes. I was due back on a Thursday. But the 1st available flight back was a Tuesday.
I accepted this fromRyanair as they said they couldn’t offer an alternative even if I went to a neighbouring airport.
As the strikes were on the hotel prices increased which I had to pay out there and then.
My insurance said they will only pay out £20 per 12 Hr period of delay up to £100 so £200 for a couple. So I am massively out of pocket after paying for hotels.
Would I be able to claim anything off Ryanair?
I can’t see anything regarding this about strikes when I look.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, Ryanair are responsible for the cost of overnight accommodation if they cancel a flight and need to reroute you on a later one - that's not to say that it'll be simple to claim it and they'll probably put up a fight, but they are legally obliged to pay this, under article 9 of the regulations:

  • Would I be better going through a flight compensation company?
Also would I be entitled to Flight delay compensation? With it being a strike ?

A strike is not something they can control, so you are unlikely to get compensation.

If you use a claims company then obviously you will pay for the service. Maybe keep that as a last resort if Ryanair fight.

When I was delayed by Ryanair (something that was not their fault) I claimed my expenses and after about six weeks they sent me the full amount that I had claimed.
