Depending on what skills you have, but how about signing up to a temping agency now, to see if you can get a couple of weeks of office work at the beginning of january? That should help at least tide you over until your new job starts.
Depending on when the agencies shut down for the holidays, they may be able to hook you up with something before christmas for a new year start, and that I'm sure would brighten up the festive period for you.

Sorry to hear about your problems - rotten time of year.
Was the redundancy procedure a long drawn out one and are you the only person going?
Who said you would get the £2k bonus, and on what basis? Can you speak to them again? Was there anything in writing?
When are you due to finish work and have you used all your holiday entitlement, if not you may be able to get some money for the days you haven't taken. EDIT - sorry just read that you finish next week. Have you got all details of last day - pay owed to you etc?
Sorry for all the questions but trying to think of ways to maximise the money for youWe all evolve - get on with it0 -
Amy, why don't you go post about the charges on the bank charges reclaim board and see if they can help anything.
To Monty & Dylan - Give mummy some more kisses and cuddles.

Hi
The £2K bonus is in my contract and was discussed about 3 months ago as well. But it doesnt say WILL be paid in the contract, my boss said it would tho.
Not drawn out, only told last week, and thats been it really. They are a very small company, i am the only direct employee so the only one to go.
Re: the holiday etc. that has all been used. I only had around 10 days or so to take, and took those last month etc.
Thanks for trying t help!

You may have a case if the 2k is in your contract then, certainly worth asking, particularly if your boss brought it up.
As you are the only direct employee are they doing away with your job altogether?
i.e. they will not be employing anyone else to do it.We all evolve - get on with it0 -

Yeah the job is not "needed" anymore. Basically they dont have enough customers to pay me/give me the work for the job.

Hi Amy,
Sorry to hear about the problems you have been having, it is miserable being skint at this time of year!
You can use your first right of appropriation over the funds in your bank account - your bank wont have told you about this for obvious reasons - but it is in the banking code and it is a simple procedure.
You need specific advice for your circumstances so I would advice calling one of the debt charities for help and advice. So many people are in similar situations and you shouldn't have to go it alone!
If you need any more help just pm me x0 -
You poor love, it's rotten not knowing important things like how much you're going to be paid & when. Is there any way that you could visit the accounts department rather than calling? If you simply arrived, asking politely if anyone could tell you anything more than you know now to help with planning over the weekend, perhaps you could get some answers (it's much easier to put someone off on the phone than in person).
Also wondered whether your 'new' work do a travel loan, so that employees can buy a train ticket/travelcard for the year with monthly payments being taken out of your salary? This might get you over the January train ticket issue.
Once you know exactly how things are financially, then you might be able to make plans. In the time you have until your new job starts, could you do any of the on-line surveys or answering questions and things that bring in a little more money? Do you know anyone around you who might like a (paid) Christmas or New Year helper - doing some child care or ironing or gift wrapping or serving drinks over the coming week or so? (Have no idea where you live or if that makes a difference to whether this might work for you).
Hope 2008 is better for you .... from your signature, you've made progress on your debts ... just a few more weeks and things will return to relative normality & you can continue to reduce them. Can you imagine your Christmas in 2010? How is that going to be for you?
Your cats sound lovely.

Thank you for replying.
Unfortunately it is such a small firm (3 directors and me!), and the accounts department (woman!) is based in Devon (i live in Kent), ever so helpful! lol
If the money is not in my account tomorrow i will have to do a bit of foot stamping me thinks.
I am hoping to do a couple of extra shifts at my local pub, so that should give me a bit of extra cash for food/cat food etc.
I have checked my contract letter from new job and i will be eligable for a travel loan after 3 months probation... rubbish!! I may have to just buy a weekly ticket and see how the money goes.
Christmas 2010... now thats going to be a fab one i think!! And i WILL have savings as well! :rotfl:
