So upset and down...

Well i havent been on for a while but i am just so stressed and down today.
After the company i worked for messing up my salary 4 months in a row, they told me last week i am being made redundant.
Because i have not been there long (5 months) i am not entitled to a redundancy package, and believe me they arent giving me anything extra. I was told i would receive a christmas bonus this payday (ages ago) of £2K but obviously they arent doing that now.
I have just checked my bank account and I am seriously over my O/D due to charges from the bank. I went there today and they arent willing to help me. I have phoned the job centre and they cant let me claim anything until my last paid day of work (which is next week). I have a loan with my bank and i have the insurance but the form i have to fill out needs me, my previous employer and the job centre to do it, so i doubt i will get that done before the new year.
I have no money... and i am just sick of it.
I do have a job lined up to start mid-january, but its getting through until then, and also paying for my train ticket to my new job.
I dont know what to do.
I have sold everything i can (ages ago) i only buy the basics... im just so down. Probably doesnt help that i have a stinking cold...
Sorry to whinge on I just cant see any way this is going to be ok.

Hi Amy,
So sorry to hear your bad news, it has all come at once for you. Feel for you with the cold too as stuck at home with the flu at the minute too. Yuck!
Sit back and take a deep breath - you will sort this! Just popping on here and getting it all off your chest has proabably made you feel a little better??
Not sure on the best answers for you but I am sure there are lots who will have. Do you have any family that could help you during this blip?
Also it may be good to post a full SOA again as I am sure that once you are back on your feet you will want to tackle that debt onc and for all!
Keep smiling xx0 -
Thank you.
It has helped a bit.
The other annoying thing is my "old work" wont tell me exactly when im getting paid, and how much! It should of been today, but i phoned up and was told "Tomorrow or monday"... yep that helps!!!
No family can help really. I already owe my mum £4K for paying off a debt earlier in the year, and my sister is as broke as me (single parent etc.).
Its just not the best time of year for it all to happen you know?

Amy, Call one of the Free Debt Advice Charities such as CCCS, their lines are open till 8pm and I'm sure they will be able to help you. You'll get all the advice you need to see you through this stressful period. Other posters will be along soon to offer you support and advice.
You can only pay what you have left after all your priorities are taken care of. No one can make you pay what you can't afford. None of this is your fault, it's just a set of circumstances that present you with a simple challenge. With the right advice - you'll be absolutely fine.
Good luck0 -
aww hugs for you as so hard at this time of year...great that you have a new job but sorry your last one didnt pay you any extra. What food etc do you have in the house to last you over Christmas and is there any way you could stay with family to save on heating food etc over the festive season? Banks are generally B**** in my experience & are all nicely nicely until you have a real problem in which case they're hopeless. I would suggest seeing a manager at the bank & ringing CCCS for some advice if you have the emotional strength. Its hard this time of year as so much possibility for spending - money, parties, food & excess that it just brings back that youre skint! HUgs for you & hope things feel better soonNerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0

Hi there
Just to let you know your not alone i was told in november that my whole department where being made redundant i havent got another job yet so i understand what your going through
((huggggssss))))0 -
Oh dear how awful for you. As you have a job lined up in January as someone else said if you can find a nice person in the bank and explain the situation then they might be able to help with an overdraft just to get you through until then.
BIG HUGS

Amy,
Can't say any more than the other folks but try and not to be too down over xmas. I reckon 2008 will be a better year for you!0 -
Amy, there is a way of using the first right of appropriation on the funds being paid into your bank. If you have not called one of the advice charities let me know - it is possible to ringfence your salary payment and prevent the bank taking money you need to live on. I'll be watching the post till 8pm and reply accordingly you need further advice on this. xx0

Hi Amy. Sorry to hear you are down. Can't give much advice because I'm new to this as well.
Perhaps you could speak to your new employers to see if they would loan you the money for the train fare?
I know it's only a small suggestion but it might help.
