The 60+ card in London is paid for by TfL and not the government.Goldfinger said:2 -
A few examples of help and advice.
Pensioners, The 09.30am dreaded deadline.
Most not all tickets machines will allow travel from 09.25am, not a massive difference but might help.
Pensioners, have a hospital or doctor’s appointment before 09.30am, show a letter as proof and free transport is given on buses. Ask if you partner has to pay, a lot of drivers will wave them on free. Not always though.
Both electric Yutong and Denis, double deckers have usb charging.
Yutong’s are very restricted on power, but do have a launch option, can get off the lights quickly.
Alexander Dennis double-deckers are quite sporty, go like a rocket.
Both offer a smooth ride.
The Dennis deckers are too low on the front and catch kerbs, have you noticed the scraping sound or bang ?.
But they both bang and rattle like they are 10 years old.
Not sure they will last 20 years like the diesels do.
Single decker diesels will never disappear for now as electric buses are too high.
No one makes one under 10 foot high. Yutongs are 10 feet 10 inches.
Diesel single deckers are 9.4 or 9.5, this allows them under very low bridges.
If you don’t have a new style mobile, buying tickets in the app is not possible.
So to save a bit, most bus companies offer a card, £1 ish purchased from the driver, you can then top it up
There and then with weekly passes, then just tap and ride all week.
The electric buses have good range, both will do a 12-16 hour day without charging.
Have a guess how much a double decker electric costs.
100k,200k,300k,400k,500k.
Derbyshire offer a bline card for young people and any fare is only £1.50.
Sheffield do Zoom passes for the young and students £1.70.
Ask for day rider tickets, they offer all day travel in the area for £6.50 on stagecoach East Yorkshire.
Or an evening rider after 18.00 for £4 I think it is.
If you or the driver does not have change, the driver will give a change voucher.
You can ask another driver to redeem this, if you did not know
The problem is drivers are not given a float anymore.
If you are disabled some councils offer a free pass, plus allow a carer to travel as well for free.
Not London.
