Any tips as to how to judge which bus stop to get out in an area you are not familiar with? I am always overshooting or getting out too soon on the odd occasions I use buses in places I am not that familiar with!0

There are various apps that use the open data available for bus services, some of which have a function to alert you when the stop you wish to alight at is coming up.
All bus stops are also plotted on Google Maps.
New regulations mean that soon most/all buses will have automatic announcements and screens that give the name of the next stop, which will also help when travelling in an unfamiliar area.
