Attendance Allowance and hospital stays

Hi all,
I have a query about AA payments and hospital stays longer than 28 days.
Claimants are required to notify of hospital stays longer than 28 days. Once a hospital stay exceeds 28 days, what happens with respect to payments. Do payments stop from the date of admission (with overpayments from that date), or is the claimant still entitled to those 28 days and payments stop from day 29 following admission?
Assuming the patient will be discharged and return home at some point post 28 days.

Claimants are required to notify AA at the earliest opportunity when they go into hospital, not after 28 days.  Benefit entitlement ceases after 28, but if DWP are not informed until that day there will almost certainly be an overpayment.

Important to note too the linking rules. If there are several stays and less than 28 days separate them then stays must be counted together when calculating the total days towards the 28 day entitlement. Once 28 days out of hospital is reached the 28 days entitlement in hospital starts again.

Days of admission and discharge are not counted as days in hospital, only full days count.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
