Question moving from DLA to PIP - 16 year old

So my daughter receives DLA, she just turned 16 and we were sent the letter to apply for PIP but we need to call them and do it over the phone.
I'm the person who is managing her DLA and will help her manage her PIP and she will stay next to me during this call.

1 - Is the call for the actual application or just an interview?
2 - How long should I expect the call to last? (I work full time)
3 - Will I be sent an application form at any point?
4 - How will I present the documents to validate the claim?
5 - How else should I prepare myself a part from the list at the back of the letter (NIN, address etc)
Thanks

1. It's to start the claim off. They go through admin questions.
2. I can't remember, sorry. Shouldn't be too long though.
3. Yes, a PIP2 form which will ask about the assessed activities and any extra information you feel is relevant. A brief overview here of how to fill in that form https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/pip/help-with-your-claim/fill-in-form-pip/ But I think maybe more links will have been given in your previous thread about your daughter needing to transfer from DLA to PIP, if I'm remembering correctly.
It will be dated the day of the phone call but could take up to two weeks to arrive.
4. Include all evidence (photocopied) with the completed PIP2 form. Make sure her name and NINO are on every separate sheet of paper.
5. The main prep you need to do it for the form they send, this initial phone call is just the preliminary admin.2 -

Time to get paper on the printer - can't believe they are still asking for hardcopies in 20230 -
Most assessments are given an hour with a 30 minute write up. I have known assessments to last a few hours though, as it depends on the amount of info/ number of conditions.coconutcurls said:2 - How long should I expect the call to last? Are you her official appointee done through DWP? If so then she will not need to be with you when you ring to start the claim. If you're not her official appointee and she's unable to manage her own claim then i'd advise you to think about becoming her appointee. You'll need to contact PIP for this. https://www.gov.uk/become-appointee-for-someone-claiming-benefits

(I work full time)It's not an assessment. That may / will come later. This is a phone call to PIP to start the claims process. It's the part of the process where the call handler will ask basic questions (name, address, name of GP, bank details etc). For the OP, the call handler completes a form PIP1 over the phone. A specimen copy of the form can be found at https://www.disabilityrightsuk.org/news/2021/november/all-pip-claimants-be-offered-apply-online-option. Click on PIP1 near the bottom of the page. Although a paper version of the form can be requested, it is quicker to do this part over the phone if possible.

Yes I am. Glad to know she doesn’t need to stay with me but the letter recommends she does. I will give it a go anyway.poppy12345 said:coconutcurls said:she will stay next to me during this call.

The letter will be a standard letter and wouldn't include information regarding an appointee. As her offical appointee then the letter should be addressed to you and not your daughter. Her PIP claim will be your responsibility and not your daughters and they won't speak to her anyway.

When we applied for my son, despite being his appointee (he has autism and struggles with social communication), the call handler asked to speak to him and he had to answer a couple of questions to give his consent for me to answer questions on his behalf. Bit pointless really as he couldn't really process what he was being asked so I was mouthing the answers to him to give to the call handler!!! Not sure if this is different now though - this was 2 years ago xAre you her official appointee done through DWP? If so then she will not need to be with you when you ring to start the claim. As his official appointee there was no need for him to speak on the phone. The whole purpose of being someones appointee is because they are mentally incapable of looking after their own claim. Nothing has changed regarding appointees for many years.

I did say to the call handler that he has autism and won't be able to answer the questions but they insisted on speaking to him - I did think it was a bit ridiculous as I had clearly stated his difficulties on the appointee application form!! Maybe it was an inexperienced call handler??As his official appointee there was no need for him to speak on the phone.
