Unfortunately I didn't get my set aside fee back! But I can live with it at this point.1

Yes, you won and can get your own back by NEVER letting a parking firm ever have a sniff of your money.
Always read signs. Leave if unsure.
Avoid is even better - that is what I do.
Get a dashcam. I have one. Note your time of arrival at retail parks. Read the signs.
Never drive into a residential car park with a 'P' Entrance sign from scammers, even if the resident says it's OK.
Stay on street when picking up or setting down passengers.
Never use a private pay & display car park.
Always look for free on-street kerbside parking nearby (pretty my much always available in every city at weekends and evenings) or look up Council car parks only.
If you have no choice, such as a car park at your gym, video the screen as you enter your VRM & keep those videos for a month just in case.
Tell your friends & family ALWAYS to update their V5C when they move. Immediate priority. Do you know anyone with a car who has recently moved this past year? Ask them if they have updated their logbook as you never want this scam to happen to anyone else you know.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
