Lloyds Banking Group Apple Pay Problems

Options
Hi,

I tried to add my Bank of Scotland card to Apple Pay direct through the wallet app, and also through the Bank of Scotland app. Unfortunately both methods ended with ‘Card Not Added. Contact your card issuer for more information. Add Card Later or Try Again’. Both options resulted in the same message.

I tried to add my Halifax card through their app and through the wallet and my Lloyds card through their app and through the wallet, but I also got the same message. I tried adding cards from other banking groups, and they worked fine.

I tested, and I was able to do a card payment not using Apple Pay, so the card isn’t blocked.

I called Bank of Scotland, and spoke with the Apple Pay wallet team, debit card fraud team, and online banking help desk. All three said nothing was up at their end, and there were no blocks etc. I was advised to contact VISA and Apple, both of who referred me back to the bank.

I’ve tried a few times across the past week, but the issue remains. I’ve also spoken with the Twitter teams and chat teams. I asked if it was worth visiting a branch, but the conclusion was I’d just be given the same number.

The live chat team says the only next option is to raise a complaint, but I can’t raise one to LBG in general for one handler to look at all my accounts - it’d have to be one with each brand.

Does anyone have any ideas to fix the issue, or has anyone else experienced this themselves recently please?

Thank you

I have no trouble adding any of my cards to Apple Pay inc Halifax

Are you sure the photo/scan you take when adding the card is clear and not blurred ?

I tried adding it directly from the LBG apps, and then I tried typing in the details manually in the wallet. I’ve just tried the camera method, but unfortunately it doesn’t work either :/

I would clear all cookies and browser history, reset the phone and start from scratch

Failing that as you are obviously Apple take it too an Apple Store, make an appointment with the Genius Bar and they will fix it for you

It doesn't matter how old the phone is it will get sorted

I tried those first two, but not the last two. It may well fix it, but it seems like a lot of hassle for the slight convenience of Apple Pay etc. It’s probably a step for the summer holidays tbh - The Apple Store would probably tell me to do that first.

Taking it to Apple is a good idea actually - thanks for this. I contacted them, and they just referred me back to LBG, but perhaps if I was there in store showing them, they’d understand a bit better.

The phone is only just over a year old, and I guess if Apple won’t help (seems unlikely, as my closest store staff are helpful), Amazon would have to help under the Consumer Rights Act.

Lloyds Banking Group cards and Apple Pay for me have been horrendous, random declining for no reason and the same issue with you, not adding new cards to Apple Pay. It’s actually a Lloyds Banking Group issue, so I moved my Lloyds current account to Nationwide and Halifax credit to Virgin Atlantic and it’s working perfect.

I hold current accounts with most other providers, nationwide and virgin included - so fortunately I do have back up options. That said, this is most disappointing from Lloyds - given I will shortly be using Halifax for all card transactions to cover the £1500 spend for £15.

@pridehappy I think I remember seeing a few posts from yourself regarding problems with LBG - did you ever complain about this specific issue, and if so, what was their response please?

It seems they are kind of just fobbing me off at CS level (I haven’t put in any complaints yet, as 3 complaints in short succession at the same banking group seems excessive to me, but maybe it’s necessary).

To those of you with more than one Halifax Reward Current Account, does the app show you card details (card number, expiry date, CVV) for all of them please? I upgraded into one last month, and the details correctly show. I opened another at the start of may, but the details don’t show yet - even though I’ve used my physical card, and I opened another yesterday and the details also don’t show. They also don’t show in the Halifax (or bank of Scotland) app Apple Pay tab. All of the cards show in the view PIN, freezes and limits, lost or stolen, and replace sections though - seems really odd to me.

I don't know about Halifax as I've never actually downloaded their app, but I know for Lloyds I've been able to view my full debit card details in the Lloyds app for each of my accounts. I assume Halifax and BOS will be pretty much a carbon copy.

I haven't a clue about apple pay given that I've never used it before, but it does seem peculiar to me that you can't view your card details in the app.

Did you ever hold more than one of the same kind of account at the same time? I wondered if perhaps the Halifax app was confused with there being 3 of the same type of account - although this is the max allowed by the ts and cs

I currently hold 2 sole Club Lloyds accounts and the debit card details are showing in the app, despite that being against the Ts&Cs. I therefore can't imagine having more than one reward account would be the issue.
