Checking we are doing the right thing

Options
Today we are going to get some euros for our holiday to Rhodes.

We are going to get £150 worth just to cover hotel taxes and any spends for first few days. We are all inclusive so won't be purchasing inside the hotel. We are staying not too far from the old town which can be a short bus ridr or an hours walk.

Then the plan is to use Barclaycard rewards card. I don't have a 0 percent deal on it so it will need paying off when I get the statement through but should give us until about start of July to pay it off. We will withdraw cash from ATM when we need it I know the ATM will charge a couple euro for using foreign card but the Barclaycard won't charge to withdraw cash themselves. If we can we will try and use cards in the shops and for any meals we have out of the hotel. We want to have some cash just in case like over here they don't take cards.

I want to check we are doing the right thing. I also have the clarity card I'm not too versed on that one as I haven't used it since 0 percent deal ended.

Thanks

Currency taken from an ATM using a Barclaycard Reward has to be paid off in full when the next statement is due for settlement or interest will accrue to the account.
I have never used ours on holiday for any other purpose - I believe you have to pay off the full amount as above where it's also been used for goods and services - you can't just separate cash advances from other purchases to eliminate the potential currency interest.
Somebody better experienced can confirm/refute that aspect.
I suggest using your Halifax Clarity card for goods and services, such as eating out - and the tourist tax in the hotel, that is not considered a cash advance.
Interest will be charged immediately on that so the Barclaycard is the better option to avoid such.
There is no need to have a fistful of readies.

Normally any cash taken from an ATM with a credit card incurs interest from the day it's taken out until it's paid off? No? There's generally no interest free period on cash advances
  • There is with Barclaycard Rewards - pay off the cash advance when the next statement is due to be settled and there is no interest.
