Now, any ideas of getting it back to print without the USB? Although  if needs be I will keep it like that.
HP Color LaserJet Pro M452nw M452dn Getting Started Guide - XLWW   has 2 methods of connecting via wifi.  Good luck!
Thanks. That’s the original instructions and I still have them - yes I filed away the paper copy and have been trying to follow them :)
I have now caught up with all the outstanding printing, using the cable for which I am eternally grateful.
Just had another go at connecting to the network but it won’t. Neither method 1 nor 2 will connect
I guess I was hoping that via the USB I could give some instruction to the printer to force it to connect to the network.
If it’s not going to work I might just have to reconfigure my office so that I keep the printer close but don’t lose my desktop.

Sadly not. I can’t move the router nearer because it needs to be by the telephone socket. Similarly there is nowhere near the router, which is on a shelf above a sink, to place the printer.
Goodness know why the master socket was put in such a daft place.

I have had a look today at long USB cables on Amazon. They have them up to 10 metres for about £15.
This might be an option as it means I could replace the printer where it normally sits and put the cable round the wall to it. This would free up my desk again.
I use my desk for labelling the jars. Today I’ve stuck labels on Gooseberry jam, Black Cherry Jam, Strawberry and Apple Jam and Spicy Tomato Chutney. That was a backlog!
I have a wee stall in the garden with an honesty box. I’ve sold over a hundred jars so far this year from the garden in addition to supplying several local cafe’s and coffee shops.

Make sure they are powered USB cables (they probably will be), because the USB 2 (unpowered) spec is only good for up to 5m as otherwise you'll have signal fade; you can't just daisychain copious USB cables together with extension cords until the cows come home as that won't work.

All a powered cable is basically an extender wired in at various points to effectively keep the signal alive
  • I understand your frustration with the sudden offline status of your HP laser jet printer. Since you've already tried common troubleshooting steps such as rebooting and resetting, it's unfortunate that you haven't received a response on the HP forum. One suggestion is to directly contact HP customer support for specialized assistance. They may be able to provide further guidance or remote troubleshooting to help resolve the connectivity issue. Exploring alternative support channels, such as live chat or phone support, could be beneficial in finding a solution and getting your printer back in working condition.
