Why can't she buy the car (hence being the 'owner') and you simply become the registered keeper with your name on the V5C.  A car’s owner and registered keeper are often assumed to be the same thing, because they are usually the same person, but they can be different people.

EDIT:  I think you meant this in your initial post - sorry.  But I don't see any problem with that arrangement!

Earlier replies suggest the cash gift may be easier.

How long has your mum been in the care home for? I found that my grandmother went from wanting to go out to not feeling confident going out very quickly indeed. Everyone is different but her use of the car might be more limited than either of you expect at the moment.
About 6 months and she went from independent in her own home to a care home within 3 weeks of a fall.

She loves to go out, whether it's a coffee in a local park or an M&S store. Which reminds me that our choice of car is partially restricted by mum because we need to fit a wheelchair.

I'm not sure the 100k limit applies if someone is already in care.  Or it maybe just once someone is in care funded by LA.  And it's not all costs associated with being in care.  It's so complicated.  The care home manager will hopefully know.

I've tried to find the page again with no success. It wasn't mentioned under care costs, it said they are increasing the savings limit before you get LA support from the 23K figure to 100K.

I think the poster means they are not nexessarily applying the new rules (should they happen) retrospectively. I fetched it up with my parents some time before Nan died and they said it wouldn't apply in her case.

I saw a comment on another post that they are talking about the medical care part of the funding from the LA, the bed and board part would still incurr seperate charges.
