I have raised PP request to check this info from recent e-mail.
    personalpayments@peoplespartnership.co.uk

Only as suggested log in steps don't seem very accurate, especially as I never rec' 2nd secure e-mail with temp password part.
Hope to rec' genuine reply next week.

  • B&CE are indeed genuine, as are the brands "Peoples Pension" and "Peoplespartnership".
I've done a fair bit of work for them over the past decade, and know their senior staff fairly well.

You are right to proceed with caution to any approach or request for information, whether from them or anyone else.
You are right to seek to confirm that the contact channels are genuine, even if the underlying company is legit.

    - checking independently on the website, email and tel no
    - checking for HTTPS in the URL

It might be safer and easier to call them to understand what product(s) you might have, from which original entities, and how to set up online access.

Their core market was for construction industry / small manual trades, offering simple pension products to employees. This has rather mushroomed in recent years, particularly since Auto Enrolment.

My OH had a pension set up last year with The People’s Pension. The initial letter gave customer number (8 digits), a link to a how-to video www.the people’s pension.co.uk/your-online-account plus a flyer.
On the website I access to check payments in (as OH gets very irregular work) thepeoplespension it has a banner referring to the renaming and a link to the new website https://peoplespartnership.co.uk/?_ga=2.259622794.1867534279.1682767895-1173044415.1682767442

Sorry. been sidetracked by stuff... many thanks for replies. I feel safe to progress following the advice here.

What would help, of course, is if People Pension, having presumably received all my personal details from employers and issued a customer number, didn't then ask straight away for a whole load of personal details to be put in. Neither Nest or Now did.

It provides a double check that the information they hold is correct.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

It would not be a fair presumption.

Nest and Now can often be a bit more painful when it comes to transferring out as often the only data they have is what the employer payroll team put in the system.   You often see clerical mistakes (missing first name or middle name mixed up with first name are examples I have seen).        Those providers ask the individual to fill in the blanks and correct errors but often people don't bother and it only becomes an issue when you want the money out or transferred.    PP are a bit more pro-active in trying to get people signed on to their system and take some ownership and responsibility.  However, not everyone can be bothered to do that.

I rec' e-mail reply and made tel call to PP today.
The 'suspect' e-mails were genuine though not directly issued from them as such.
    personalpayments@peoplespartnership.co.uk
I honestly   believe some of their e-mails are poorly worded.
Anyway Ive had to print and scan my docs using pen sig for them to setup DD.
I'm not going to any any considerable Cont's though prefer above workplace Min.

    thanks

  •  I too, have received an unsolicited communication from PP (with customer number) out of the blue, and I am not aware I have ever had a pension with them under the current or former name. Seems suspicious to me but I have had many jobs and I'm nearing retirement so would like to safely get to the bottom of it.

You might find this page helpful, if there is a chance you have forgotten about any pensions:

PP are one of the more common auto-enrolment scheme providers.  So, considering your employment history, there is a good chance it is genuine.  If you are unsure, then look up the tel number on their website and ring them.
