I'm installing a multi-fuel stove and have been looking at running costs - hard to get reality as nobody seems to measure precisely how much fuel they use and how much it costs, unlike for gas and electricity which I suppose is easy to measure via our bills. You don't burn the same way from year to year. Last year, despite it being a mild year, we spent three times our usual amount on wood but our oil use was almost half what is typical as we changed the way we heated the house. I say mild as I recall we did fire up one of the burners in August last year but haven't this August. We also didn't have much of our own wood available but will do this year.
Every burner is different (not just size but airflow) and can see two neighbours burn totally different amounts on the same day. Its really difficult to get a "general" idea of use. Although many will be able to explain their own use quite well. Problem is that their use won't is unlikely to match yours.
