If you want the frothy milk for capuccino, get yourself an aerolatte - it's a battery operated whisk thing (google will bring up the website) which makes brilliant frothy milk.

Proper branded aerolattes cost about £15 -you can pick up cheap knockoffs for about £2

Thanks folks for all the tips - I've decided to wait now til after Christmas and just use the old fashioned filter machine which is lurking in the back of the cupboard somewhere :D It's cappucino I fancied really, don't like expresso, it blows my head off LOL I don't really relish the thought of buying loads of expensive pod things either, so I'll have a huge rethink on the whole subject.
    Thanks again

I think you have to make espresso as the base in order to make a latte/cappuccino type coffee. ie, steamed milk into espresso - 100% milk is a latte, plus choc is and whipped cream is a mocha etc etc (my guess)

Just wondering what you have bought and where as I think I am looking for the same thing as you (ie ones that make latte/cappu from scratch with steamer). Been waiting for a couple of months now for the sales and like you been using a coffee presser and Costa round the corner for coffees. Never wanted one that uses pods as sometimes I like filtered sometimes I like latte - those pods are not too economical.

Please let us know what you got in the end!

edit: By the way, I am looking to invest on a good quality machine so anyone else comes across any good ones on sale, please please please let me know.

I just got a Gaggia K111 down at Matalan. I know it's a capsule one and people seem to hate that but I've just had a coffee from it and it was yummi!

It came with 50 capsules and was marked down from £139 to £42.50 - so I'm quite happy! The pods work out at about 20p each which I'm happy to pay for a really nice coffee. I suspect that there are cheaper ways but I've had a stove-top and various other bits and this is really nice. So even if it is a few pence more for a coffee, if it's a good one, who cares?

Based on my one and only coffee so far, one capsule can make an espresso and a nice weak base for a mocha for DW who likes a strong choc/weak coffee mocha.

It also has a milk steamer on the side which works very well.

    Merry Christmas sales everyone!
