i would not buy one of the coffee makers that takes those pod things the pods are so expensive!! just buy a standard coffee machine and then you can use the blend and strenth you like (the coffee works out cheaper per cup).. i had an expresso/cappachino maker for christmas 3 years ago - from next not an expensive one - it runs at least once a day and is still going strong. its brilliant and costs a lot less than the pods or buying expresso on my way into work from a coffee shop. when it eventually gives up the ghost i will not hesitate in buying a better make. i was so supprised with it i expected a metal top of the hob type expresso maker, but i can honestly say it is one of the best kitchen equiptment pressents i have ever recieved!!!!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

Thanks folks for all the tips - I've decided to wait now til after Christmas and just use the old fashioned filter machine which is lurking in the back of the cupboard somewhere
It's cappucino I fancied really, don't like expresso, it blows my head off LOL I don't really relish the thought of buying loads of expensive pod things either, so I'll have a huge rethink on the whole subject.
Thanks again0 -
Check out Charity Shops for the old funnel & jug types. Remember to use quite hot water, not boiling. I only use these with filter papers. excellent coffee. Can't see you paying more than a couple of quid. & as the man said in "Betty Blue", - moisten the grounds.Nice to save.0

We had a Senseo for a couple of years and you can buy refillable pods from ebay which are quite good, however the machine eventually died, the pressure fell and the coffee was so weak!
We are now using a stovetop cappuccino maker by Bialetti - I think it's called a Mokka.
It is awesome and you can use whatever coffee you like.It will make espresso, cappuccino or latte and makes enough in one go to make a big mug or 2 medium cups. It works by making the coffee in the usual espresso way, but you add milk to the top bit and there is a pressure valve that froths the milk at the end.
We got it from redmonkey.com as their prices include postage.
I am the pickiest coffee drinker in the world and this hits the spot. It takes a bit of practice to get it perfect every time but you will get there in the end!
Happy cappuccino drinking!!NO EXCUSES - THIS YEAR IT'S PERSONAL..........0 -
Hi -I'm thinking of investing in either a Tassimo or one of those funky round Krups things, both reduced at the moment - can anyone offer me any recommendations or warnings on these products? Sorry I don't have time to trawl thru all previous threads so I apologise in advance if this topic has been covered before.
ThanksNever argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.0 -
I have tried Senso, Mokabista, Tassimo and now we have Dulce Gusto and I can honestly say without a shadow of doubt the Dulce Gusto is by far the best. You get a nice Hot (yes hot not just luke warm as is the case with the others) cup off coffee or hot choc. Yes I know I am tied to buying Dulce Gusto coffee capsule but it is so easy to make just 1 cup within less than a minute of turning machine one.
I have used and retuned all the others becuase of my disappointment in them but I would not be without my Dulce Gusto.0 -
Cheap way to make frothy milk-put it in a small bottle,like a plastic coke bottle-and shake,and shake-it really works.0

I Know several people who own one or other of these pod coffee machines and none of them used them much after their 2nd round of pod purchases. I have a filter coffee machine that is used every day and it makes great coffee.0

Have to agree, we've just taken back a Tassimo (it leaked and sprayed hot water) back and swapped it for a Dolce Gusto - No comparison in my opinion, Dolce Gusto is far better, hot lattes in around a minute (choccy drink not bad either). We still use other methods for brewing coffee but if we fancy a cappucino or latte the option is their.0 -
We had a Krups espresso/cappuchino maker for a few years which was pretty good. We then bought a Gaggia for half price at House of Fraser - okay, still £130 but OH is thrilled to bits with it and uses it every day. I would say try HoF in January.0
