    It’s Pension Credit Savings Credit - presumably some was owed to the estate?

    Not sure that is correct. My understanding is PCSC code is the one used for pension credit savings credit.

    Googling PSCS I get Pension Strategy Computer System, which could be a payment for multiple things. If it is a recent payment you might get a letter from DWP in the next few days explaining.

    Jowwie is correct - we received a similar payment 2 weeks after mums death - it was actually for pension weeks owing and we received a letter confirming what is was about 2 weeks later (dated the day the payment had been made) so you should get one soon.
    I assume that DWP must use the PSCS reference for closing payments due.

    Thanks Jowwie & H657, I paid some pension money back a month ago, maybe they miscalculated. I'll guess I will find out in a few weeks when I get the letter, thanks again.

    The mystery continues

    I'm slightly confused. I got two letters DWP with regard to a deceased person pension payments.

    1) 1st letter stated pension was incorrectly paid into the account from the 14th nov until 27th nov ( i've paid this back)
    2) Then in april months later get a letter stating pension was underpaid between the 31st oct until the 13th November with a payment to the executors account.

    Not sure if its worth asking questions, if the pension is paid in arrears surely the the 1st letter should be refunded back to the estate. No payments were made after the death date as we informed DWP fairly quickly.

    Any ideas please

    my take on it would be;

     State Pension is by default paid four weeks in arrears (although other frequencies and payments in advance can happen).

    It sounds as if in your case DWP  made a four weekly payment to cover the weeks 31st October - 27th November into the deceased's account before they found out from the Tell Us Once service that they had died prior to the payment being made.

    They therefore requested the whole payment back, as per the first letter, and you refunded the whole amount.

    Now they've had a look at the specific date of death in detail, they've determined that the person was alive for the first two weeks and was therefore entitled to two weeks pension, and so that has resulted in the second letter and the payment into the executors account.

    (State Pension is always paid in whole weeks, apart from when a person first reaches state pension age. I'm not sure, but I think that if a person dies mid-way through a week, then the pension legislation says that the pension should be paid for the week. )

    Thanks p00sticks, I got a better understanding now. Hopefully this is the end of the DWP letters.  Many thanks
