SSE take over by OVO, then our bills have rocketed

  • Can you see your bill from Ovo (the one with the £3765 charge) to check where that figure has actually come from? There will be a breakdown somewhere on the bill showing exactly how they’ve arrived at that amount.

Your electric usage is very high, but definitely not to the extent suggested by the feb-mar bill. Having provided regular readings means they should have made few estimations that might be corrected too, so it looks like the only way to know for sure is to see what they’ve actually billed you for to find out if that’s accurate.

Look at the table rather than the chart -  there were no readings in Dec, Jan and Feb.

    But what about this £3765

It looks to me that you have used 3159 kWh for electricity in the 17 months since 28 November 2021 (average of 185 kWh per month, 2,200 kWh per annum).

Gas (assuming a metric meter) has been 2089 units (23,737 kWh over 17 months, 1,396 kWh average per month, 16,755 per annum).

Why is there a reading of 0 on the 14th of February 2022? Did you get a new meter?

I doubt the new meter, the sequence of meter readings makes the 15419 in April 2023 a logical conclusion of the old meter readings.

So it seems not unlikely that they have treated the 0 reading as start of a new meter, and charged you for the full usage of 15419KWh minus whatever you paid already. That would explain the over £3000 bill you received.

So the question is, is there a new meter or not. If there is you are an extemely high user and the catch up bill is very likely correct. If not the 0 reading created in a glitch in the billing system, them believing you have a new meter and creating a wrong catch-up bill.

  • this bill just shows it’s an adjustment?

What you are posting are not bills, it is an account overview.

What people are asking for is the real bill.

It's because of the 0 reading in February, which is in the first OVO billing period, that shouldn't be there. The meter obviously didn't go round the clock during that time, so what happened and why does that reading show during the change to OVO?

Balance Adjustment - is that estimated for a meter stopped?

Have you any info on what that balance adjustment is?

At the moment they are often because OVO and SSE are:
    Using estimates for the migration.
Then applying a real reading and going backwards and forwards to recalculate over any price changes

They post such changes as a balance adjustment in the OVO platform.

If the OP goes to their old SSE account they will likely find a "final" bill from SSE under bills and payments, that has then quite likely been amended.
