SSE take over by OVO, then our bills have rocketed

Options
Evening all,

Is anyone else having issues with OVO?

When we were with SSE our following payments were;

SSE:
1st April - 7th Jun 2022 = £276.03 (£439.78 Credit)
8th Jun - 26 Aug 2022 = £ 532.95 (£612.03 Credit)
27th Aug 2022 - 24 November 2022 = £605.21 (£815.95 Credit)
25th Nov 2022 - 17th Jan 2023 =  £512.79 (£947.21 Credit)
------------------------------------------------------------------

OVO:
18th Jan - 17 Feb 2023 = £304.63 (£91.62 Credit)
18th Feb - 17 Mar 2023 = £3765.64

I'm sure it's a mistake that'll correct itself, but since they take over, we've gone from nearly £1000 in credit, to oweing them £3765. Usage has remained relatively the same throughout the months.

Do we raise the compliant, obviously I'm not paying the £3765.

Many thanks,
Ben

    You need to quote kWh not £££

    If you can show 1 years usage kWh  someone will help you

    Were your bills from SSE based on accurate meter readings, not estimates?
  • Let’s start with the easy part to cover our bases - what was the actual amount of energy usage each month with SSE and what amount of usage are OVO billing you for now? How has each supplier been receiving your meter readings and have you ever checked that the readings on the bills match up.

    Check your past and current bills for the actual number of units used, and most importantly see if the the most recent billed reading matches up with what is actually on your meter.

    Worst thing you can do is assume it’s a mistake that will go away if you ignore it and pay nothing - while that is entirely possible, the other possibility is that you may genuinely owe that amount (e.g. if your bills had been estimated for the past year and have now caught up to you) and if that is the case it’ll be in your best interests to look for a resolution sooner rather than later.
    Moo…

    Electricity:

    For Feb - Dec 2022 we used 13667.2 kWh, and 2023 we’ve used 1751 kWh.
    2022 = 34p per kWh
    2023 = 32.59p per kWh

    Gas: they have no information for 2022, and 5275 kWh for 2023 @ 9.95p

    You have electricity and gas - what is your heating please?   If gas heating your electricity consumption is very high.

    On face value the electric looks quite OK but more info is needed for the gas -  do you not have bills for 2022 ?   I would think the £3765 represents far month than 1 month.

    Did you give SSE/OVO a reading 17th March 2023
    Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    I was with SSE before they switched me to OVO

    I had smart meters and SSE generated a bill every month that my direct debit of £91 covered the cost.

    For 2 years I kept the bills and they tallied with my own spreadsheet

    As soon as OVO took over they increased the DD by 50% despite me being in credit by £240

    No amount of calling emailing or writing to the CEO made a blind bit of difference

    Their excuse was I am a new customer and their forecast is for an average user which was roughly twice what I used

    I walked

    SSE "sold" me to OVO last October.  Despite a 17 year history with SSE showing my usage consumption averaged at 1800kWh elec & 8000kWh gas OVO wanted to set a fixed DD based on DOUBLE that usage.  And facing a winter when with risings costs & getting by on a state pension I would be making efforts to cut down.  They would not budge & as the FDD would be unaffordable I jumped ship to EDF where I pay monthly variable DD.  With just 6 months history now EDF on my latest bill predict my annual usage to be 1600kWh elec & 5900kWh gas.

    Tell OVO to take a hike!  They are a joke.

    You should still be able to log into your SSE account and view the old bills once past the pop ups about being migrated (it might be under closed accounts or similar).

    Are the Ovo bills actual or estimates, as they use estimates for the migration process . I have been through it twice and the first time they ignored readings from a week before and went 30% under, and the second time they ignored their own smart meters for the migration and went 300% over….

    On the first move I couldn’t submit a meter reading for a few weeks and in the second they updated within 24 hours from the smart meter and it all straightened out in the end.

    Why was 2022 34p? You don't meant for the entire year do you? Was it all Estimates and now they have billed you for the entire year at 34p?

    If your rate was 34p the entire year I think you possibly underpaid by 50% in 2022.

    What are the meter reading on the bills?

    14K KWH for electric is horrific, Do you have a EV, Heatpump, Swimming pool, Hot tub?

  • There are really any increases in usage. High point in Jan but that’s it.
