I think it’s extremely poor that a company would keep your money when they can’t perform a service, regardless of whose fault it is.

The company I work for carry out installs, disposals etc for a range of appliances. There are checklists to go through with the customer and if purchasing online, the customer has to confirm they have read the requirements for installs. However, if this fails due to the customer’s set up, they’ll still receive a refund. Our crew are delivery drivers who are trained to carry out installs, so the only difference with an installation is that more time is added on to the job. It shouldn’t matter why it failed, if that service hasn’t been performed, I think you’re due a refund.

We get a few failed installs of washing machines as customers want them stacked with their tumble dryer which we won’t do. We’d still refund though.

However, if they won’t play ball, you’re looking at an LBA and small claims. I’m not as clued up on the legality of the situation but it doesn’t seem right to me.

A quick update: Beacon Electrical refunded me the full amount, so fair play to them and they were great on the phone when I spoke to them.

If anyone goes for an installation service from any company I would suggest you have a thorough conversation before ordering and if possible send them pictures of your current wiring to confirm as it can probably save you a lot of hassle if things go wrong. Thank you all for your help.

    Cheers
