Should I close all my unused credit cards

I have got 6 credit cards
Halifax
Barclays
M n S
Aqua
MBNA
HSBC
For four of them, I've got over £7000 of credit limit.
I don't use any except the HSBC one. I got it on a 0% spend and still within the period so paying it off slowly.
So should I close them? I was thinking of closing halifax, m n s and aqua. Leave the others for a rainy day and close the HSBC once I've cleared it.
They're just sat there dormant.
It also means I can take advantage of future 0% promotions.
On experian my score is 999. I know it's indicative. But I don't have a reason to use credit cards to improve my score.

Keep at least three or four. But no need to close any unless you have self control issue.
Ignore your 999 score. It's due to you being locked into a cycle of inactivity, not a reflection of your credit worthiness.
Improve your credit worthiness by using at least one of the other cards regularly and clearing in full each month.2 -
Shall I keep the ones with the largest credit limit first?

Score means nothing to lenders.
\if you are using HSBC, then drop M&S, as you can't balance transfer between them (same group)
& Aqua.
But be aware after 13 months with no usage they will be deemed dormant & need reactivating (varies between lenders) & leave it 2 years, you may find they get closed.
Unused accounts are a much higher fraud risk, as they never or very rarely get checked by users.
So if you are not using them & have no intention of using them. Just get rid of the ones with the highest rates & keep 2. Other will disagree, but what is the point of having a card that you are not going to use. As it free's up you income to available debt, should you require other credit at some point.Life in the slow lane1 -
I don’t understand the point of holding onto cards that aren’t used unless there is a need to have a large amount of credit on them in the future .
I only have one which is used for all day to day expenses and paid off each month, and then a holiday one. I don’t have any need for extra ones.0 -
MBNA regularly offer 0% deals so I'd be keeping that for that reason. Barclays hasn't offered me anything in about 6 years and also reduced my limit by 90% so I keep thinking I'll nuke that one unusable. I'd get rid of Aqua due to their normally high rates if you do use it for purchases. After that I'd look at whomever gives the best cashback or points or whatever. M&S is my best one for that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. If you need any help on these boards, do let me know.
