EasyJet variable hold baggage charges

I am new to the forum. I have read some of the posts concerning the above but thought my very recent experience may prevent forum members from paying what I consider hard to justify charges for hold baggage not booked with flight tickets immediately on release of the flight schedules. MSE normally gives advance warning of the release of schedules.Booking at that time a 23kg hold luggage costs £20 approx each way (Belfast to Palma.) Adding such a suitcase on 5th April 2023 some 33 days before my departure on 8th May the quoted price was £44.99 each way. Telephone haggling was unsuccessful ‘ the rules are displayed on the website’ being the response.Without boring you with the maths I calculate that it cost me £1.93 per kilo for my suitcase. Based on my body weight of 89kg and an outward ticket price of £58.99 easyjet charged me £0.66 per kilo for my outward flight. Hard to justify ? A salutary and costly lesson for me.

You don't get carried onto the plane though, that has to be worth the difference
Easyjet use dynamic pricing for fares and baggage. They are allowed to do this.💙💛 💔0 -
It is a gamble
I booked a flight recently and purchased baggage up front. Change of plan so I didn't travel and lost the flight + the baggage money. If I had only booked the flight with the intention to add the bag later, I would have lost less.....some you win, some you lose0 -
Hi CKhalvashi,
Thank you for your comments - I appreciate that easyJet are entitled to use dynamic pricing .
In October 2022 it would have cost approx £20 to have a 23kg suitcase place in the hold.
In April 2023 the same suitcase cost £44.99.
The mechanics of getting the suitcase into the hold are exactly the same.
Is that dynamic pricing or greed? Either way surely easyJet can be asked to justify the increase.😎

I've paid £5 on some flights and £50 on others on the same route, the same question (dynamic pricing or greed) could be asked of this. The question for me is how much I need to go that day.
Airlines don't make money from flights, they make money from services. Many tickets are sold at a loss.💙💛 💔0 -
You can ask, and you might receive some kind of answer. It is just dynamic pricing, according to their business model and that of similar carriers. Pay early and it costs less, on the chance you will actually fly; it's nothing to do with the mechanics of getting the suitcase into the hold.I used to fly so much on easyJet that they put me on their frequent flyer program, invitation only, but I never once checked in any hold luggage. Are you sure you need to..?Evolution, not revolution1
