Can't get a job as no ID

How about a PASS card https://www.postoffice.co.uk/identity/pass-card or Citizen Card https://www.citizencard.com if it is simply a case of getting a document to prove ID? If he was born in the UK and has an NI number, then he should have an NHS card and a GP, who would be able to provide the necessary professional 'reference' to confirm identity when applying.Brie said:@Marcon
re the support worker....there have been messages left by the young man which no one seems to deal with, when he calls the phone doesn't get answered, ring back a minute later and it's turned off. So refusing to engage. A colleague has rung today and we're hoping that with an unknown number he might manage to get through. And there's a big difference between an under confident teen and a determined 60something.
re DWP....when I was personally dealing with the JobCentre last year I was flat out told that they don't give out individual phone numbers and that you need to ring a central line and the "might" get back to you. I did complain and the individual simply lied about what happened. The manager of the centre didn't bother to respond to any of my comments just passed them back to "my" work coach who then lied some more. So, no, not very high expectations there.
re applying for birth certificates....yes anyone can get one but it helps to have the GRO which I've yet to manage.

Attended job interview yesterday 3 months expired passport copied along with current photographic driving license card in date, no problemo. Was sitting in a hospital hours before passport expiry for the fun of it so very last thing on my mind now is to get passport updated.1

FreeBMD is excellent for finding index references to use when ordering certificates from GRO, but doesn't have coverage that recent ( birth only to about 1992 ...). He could use Ancestry or FindMyPast (free) at a local library to get the reference, but the easiest option would be to order one from the registration office in the area he was born ( by phone or online) ..the cost is the same as GRO (£11).Marcon said:Free access to the GRO index: https://www.freebmd.org.uk2 -
Thank you. They are currently up to 1997 but I'd forgotten we are now in 2023(!) and the young man in question is only 19...TonyMMM said:

Don't GPs often charge to do things that aren't really NHS related?? I know our surgery refuses to do anything they consider a "waste of time". Maybe they will be nice to him though....

Yes, they can either make a charge for doing anything that is not part of their NHS duties or refuse to do it at all, as they please.Brie said:@Marcon

He needs to explain what he needs and why, and see what they say.Brie said:@Marcon

What about voter ID card from the local authority?

An employer probably needs to make two checks.
- Does X have the legal right to work in the UK? (the birth certificate and NI document seem the simplest way to cover this)
- Is the person we are appointing the X who has shown they have the right to work in the UK?- this is where a more varied load of photo ID, bills with addresses might come into play. But different employers may have their own ideas about what they are comfortable accepting.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Yes - I'm going to suggest that even though you're not supposed to use it for anything other than voting. But first he has to register to vote. I think it's a great idea to have in his wallet as back up.Savvy_Sue said:What about voter ID card from the local authority?
