Starting a small business on Universal Credit with limited ability to work
Good morning,
I am currently on
Universal Credit
Universal Credit with limited ability to work
PIP (Basic)
I am due to retire on my 66th birthday which is in October 2024
I plan to start a small online business, I do not intend it to become massive, I just want an extra income to back up my retirement pension.
What I am trying to find out is, if I start that business today (18 months before I retire) and inform the DWP which will end up with me going onto what is known as (Minimum income floor limit) would I lose my limited ability to work attachment, also would I lose my PIP.
Thank you

If you have had a Work Capability Assessment (WCA) and been awarded Limited Capability for Work (LCW) and placed in the Work Preparation regime as a result, then the Minimum Income Floor (MIF) will not apply as it only applies to people in the All Work Related Requirements regimes. So you will simply be required to report your income and expenses each month from your buiness, and any profit in the month will be treated as your income for that month.UC (LCW) and PIP are completely independent and not related (currently). Our green credentials: 12kW Samsung ASHP for heating, 7.2kWp Solar (South facing), Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh), Net exporter3
