Turned down for a mobile phone.

Have you contacted EE to drop down to a SIM only package? Don't get into a contract, but they might do a monthly rolling package that would be cheaper. Approaching your current provider seems like a good idea, even as a stop gap until you can get something properly cheap like Gifgaf, Smarty or Lebara etc.0

polomints said:So my current mobile deal with EE is awful I'm paying way over the odds for an old phone with a cracked screen and EE were so expensive I decided to jump ship.
I tried to sign up to a phone deal with Vodaphone via the Carphone Warehouse and I was turned down because I failed a credit check. According to moneysupermarket my credit score is fine, however, if I try to sign up to Experian I get the error "Sorry, we couldn’t confirm your identity" also equifax just gives me an error. Could this be the route of the problem?
My guess is that they didn't supply you with "an old phone with a cracked screen" but that the phone was new and in full working order when you got it, and that you agreed the monthly payments. If the phone is no longer useable you could buy a cheap replacement or could ask ee to allow you to upgrade early and sign a new contract. Otherwise if you are still in contract you will have to settle the remaining charges on your contract in addition to paying a new contract.
If you supply some detail on your current 'way over the odds' deal others here will be able to advise on possible upgrades. I run on hand-me-uos so my 'new' phone has been in the family for three years.1 -
You could try using top ups, its like a contract but no commitment. You topup £5-£10 a month and they exchange it for unliminted texts, unlimited minutes and data. O2 does good deals on these sims. Its sort of what replaced the old pay-as-you-go

It might be worth looking for refurb, giffgaff and rwg do deals on their website and there us amazon. Or maybe ask Father Christmas?
Sadly if you want a new phone someone had to pay for it0 -
I went to O2 in the end.

On the electoral roll?
A screen replacement is a lot cheaper thn a new contract, unless you go SIM-only, which is the cheapest way to get a new phone. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
