Turned down for a mobile phone.

So my current mobile deal with EE is awful I'm paying way over the odds for an old phone with a cracked screen and EE were so expensive I decided to jump ship.

I tried to sign up to a phone deal with Vodaphone via the Carphone Warehouse and I was turned down because I failed a credit check. According to moneysupermarket my credit score is fine, however, if I try to sign up to Experian I get the error "Sorry, we couldn’t confirm your identity" also equifax just gives me an error. Could this be the route of the problem?

    Could be.
  • @polomints you need to provide detailed information to get access to your files - it could be that you're not filling in some of the fields, on the page, accurately enough - this is enough to trip up the system.

Look at other Credit Reference Agencies too.

Study all the information on those pages of data because it's the information and not the 'score' number that gives you/businesses all the information you need to know about how you are managing your financial affairs.

I tried again today this time with 3, and they turned me down, I made sure all my credit cards are at the same address as one was registered to my Mum's. Experian works now and I linked Experian to my current account and which boosted my score from good to excellent.
I noticed the address for my current phone was written slightly wrong so I correct that I tried again that didn't work, so then I tried again and billed it to a separate current account and still the computer says no. Both Transunion and Experian show my credit score as excellent.

Just buy a handset and get a sim only deal.

None of the phone providers will know or care about the scores.

You've made a lot of searches in a very short period.  You're unlikely to get accepted for anything for a while, so ease up for a couple of months at least.

Your post suggests your are still in contract (paying for a broken phone). You will still stay in contract and owe EE the money even if you go elsewhere.

Unless Experian or Transunion are offering you the phone contract, then your score is worthless. It's the report, not the score that is important.

It would be important to distinguish what "in contract" means. The OP could be "in contract" but beyond the minimum contract period, thus being able to cancel and switch penalty-free. I suspect this is the case, and that they bought a new phone a while ago but its now described as "old" with a cracked screen.

Yeah, I've been due an upgrade for a while, I'm paying over the odds for a phone that's paid for.

As suggested, go buy a phone and take out a sim-only contract.
