Unfortunately its fundamental to how many services work... imagine how impractical checkout would be if they couldnt? They'd need to go up to your room and check there was no damages, stolen items, things from the minibar etc, call round all the restaurants/bars/spa etc to ensure there werent any late night charges that havent yet been added etc. Each person checking out would be a good 20 minutes so trying doing that 100 times every day for a reasonable sized hotelyou123l said:
Thank you. We've managed to sort it. They have admitted there was an error on their side and refunded the second charge. I guess I'm just a little concerned that they were able to charge the card without informing us first. I don't like the idea of his card details sitting there for them to have access to.
Same with a hire car, you could never drop it off out of hours because they'd have to check for damage, fuel levels etc and not just the cursory check they currently do but a more full on check to make sure all potential areas of damage are looked at1
