(a) Freesat box
(b) get an aerial
(c) use internet (go can get all five std channels plus more for free).

I'd say a combination of (a) and (c) are best, as you don't then absolutely rely on an internet connection.  But internet connection will give access to most content.

You'll still have to pay from subscription services like Netflix.  If you want to save on Netflix, you could just subscribe one month out of three.  They don't release good new content all that often.
