This looks interesting and suggests a change of mind - though I don't have confirmation as yet either from IHG or Creation:

This was before Creation announced the closure of the card

As above, this is from 2022 when IHG overhauled their reward scheme.

    Although the Creation card is closing, IHG have emailed today to state the IHG benefits are being extended until end of 2024.  Depending on current status;
    • IHG One Rewards Credit Cardholders:
      • In 2023 will keep their current IHG One Rewards status
      • In 2024, will receive Silver Elite status for all of 2024
    • IHG One Rewards Premium Credit Cardholders:
      • In 2023 will keep their current IHG One Rewards status
      • In 2024, will receive Platinum Elite status for all of 2024

Plus a 2x or 4x points promotion to register for when it is sent out.

Someone on HFP suggested that they are extending the benefits because IHG is struggling to find a CC partner
  • Like someone else said earlier I suspect that Chase, who are aggressively marketing their relatively new on-line banking products in the UK, will probably be favourite for the IHG CC as they run the US scheme which incidentally has a lot better points earning that the UK scheme, but that has always been the case.

I have had an IHG rewards CC since it was with Barclaycard so remember that the transition from them to Creation was relatively seamless. I can only imagine that Creation (actually BNP Paribas, Creation is their CC/Loan division in the UK) have sprung this on IHG and they just need some time to sort it. I would expect them to resolve it before the end of the year.

If not then I wont be staying with IHG so much, simple.

IHG are providing complimentary status boosts for current credit card holders through next year. That rather implies they don't have anything lined up, but we'll see.

I'm not sure that Creation pulled the plug either - they haven't terminated their Marriott agreement yet. I can imagine this whole debacle with mishandling the Autumn 2021 closures might have reached IHG's attention and they've decided it'd be best for their brand if they had nothing to do with Creation moving forward (probably made easier since Creation aren't offering anything to new customers).

To temper your expectation on rewards - issuers in the States beenfit from commissions from interchange in the order of 1-2% (sometimes even higher) of txn value. Over here that figure is regulated at no more than 0.3% (when used in the UK). For clarity - that's the ceiling for Visa/Mastercard; the amount the issuer gets is derived from that.

This is what makes me pessimistic about the possibility of a future IHG (or Hilton) card. That said, Barclaycard seem to be making a free card paying 1 Avios per £ work, so it's not impossible.
  • Like everyone else reading this I'm disappointed that no CC transition appears forthcoming from IHG.
What would happen if someone from UK applied for the Chase CC ? I cannot see any indication on their site that an application from the UK would not be accepted.

Without a US address and social security number, you won't be able to open an account with Chase.

I believe a new IHG UK card is in the works though probably not until next year
