Credit card transfer from MBNA to Nationwide

Hi...I applied for a new credit card and balance transfer with Nationwide. They were to transfer debt from MBNA. I did it all online with it being accepted and then i get a letter in the post to say the transfer had not gone through and to ring them. Then told that they could only sort my balance transfer by sending MBNA a cheque in the post. In the meantime they had put the £2000 debt on to my new card without clearing the debt on my MBNA card and 1 month later they still havent sorted out the transfer leaving me with £4000 debt rather than my original £2000. They have reissued a cheque to MBNA as the first one didnt arrive so Im unsure when the actual transfer will happen. I have rang Nationwide to complain but have been told that they have 56 days to get back in touch with me about this! Not sure what to do about this as I dont understand how they can add debt to my new card when they havent cleared my debt on my old card?

Your account doesn't have to be in debit until the cheque clears - that's what is worth complaining about. However, if the transfer is to 0%, it doesn't matter whether it's £0 or £4K.1

It is a 0% transfer but my issue is that I am now in £4000 debt so if I am looking for credit it would have an impact. Also, I still have to make payments on the card that has £2000 debt cause Nationwide havent shifted it across to the 0% interest which is not what I wanted0

Hi MaryJB - did you have any luck sorting this please? I’m also trying to transfer from nationwide to mbna but nationwide are saying it needs to be done manually via a cheque. When I speak to mbna they say that’s incorrect and would never be done that way?!0

Hopefully you’ll be fine as mbna couldn’t understand this process!2 -
Nationwide are so archaic in all their processes. Probably worked out for the better for me to get accepted as it was done semi manually but also means things like this are slow.0

Hopefully you’ll be fine as mbna couldn’t understand this process!Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Did you also try to transfer balances from any other provider to Nationwide and if so did you encounter any problems/longer than usual delays?0
