EML light on following MOT repairs (due aftermarket parts). Will retest fail on this new alert?
My usual garage took my car to a different testing station for it's MOT as they were short of staff to do the test.
It failed.
Original garage repaired all failures but brought car back to me with engine management light illuminated.
They say it will go out 'eventually' after being driven for a while. It now has to go back to the other MOT test centre, with this warning light still illuminated, for a retest.
Usual garage told me it can't fail on that as it's not on the original list of failures.
Not entirely happy to be driving around with the EML light on.
Is it even legal?
It failed.

It's not illegal as such but is an MOT fail irrespective of whether it was on the original fail list.
I'd be asking why they have not cleared the fault code after they had completed the repair.1 -
I'm not sure how easy it is to clear it? I was just told it would go out after being driven for a while, but re-test is imminent and it hasn't gone out yet. Also I shouldn't really be driving it anyway, except to the MOT test centre, should I?

If the issues have been fixed the car will be fine to drive.

It MAY be fine to drive but you won't know until it goes on a code reader.
It WILL fail an MOT test with the light on.0 -
It's not going in for an MOT test though is it. It's going in for a RETEST!Ayr_Rage said:It MAY be fine to drive but you won't know until it goes on a code reader.

They are now having to fit a new sensor

As expected, despite what they told me, the alternative garage will not pass it with the EML illuminating.0 -
And now it's passed after extra charges for a new sensor on the exhaust but with the following advisory...
"Front exhaust system filled with putty and not losing gases"
What is that all about?0
