Hi! Here it is! My new diary to a new life!
Any advice welcome! Though i am an avid reader of the forum so get the gist if what i need to do! Basically im a mum of three going through divorce and trying to get out of debt as quickly as possible so i can start sleep better at night and do life better.
Due to to such a disastrous debt/marriage i dont qualify for any great cc deals so instead of having the credit cards that were about 39% apr, ive taken a loan at 27% which is all i qualified for and have closed the credit cards!
I can not tell you how much better i feel about this and im sleeping better too!
Also i can overpay at any point for free soo im loving that!
Ive done my SOA to death so im happy with that- there is just one thing outstanding i need to tackle to improve my finances and snowball the new life…..my car!
My car is on finance in my ex name so we need to get rid of it as its costing me almost 600 a month with insurance etc included
However the car is with blackhorse and so im pretty stressed about the drama of handling back!
Im getting the dint and damage etc fixed to minimise the stress extra charges at the moment the voluntary termination at the min looks like its going to be 2k.
My plan is to get a cheap run around so that the 600 a month can be in my bank :-) and gives me more choices to clear the debt quicker

Good Luck with your journey @Snail30, it must be a tough time for you.
Changing the car seems a sensible idea, the termination costs from leasing are horrendous, our current car is leased and we've said never again after this one. We were just drawn in by the monthly payments being so much lower.
It must be a relief to be sleeping better and it was a wise move to close all of your credit cards after consolidating.
Good luck with your journey.2 -
Thanks- i have faith this time next year everything will be different but its sooooo hard when your in the thick of it.

Hi have you taken a look at WeBuy to see what they will offer for your car? 2nd hand car values have gone up substantially, so you may find that they could pay off your finance and you could still buy something. Worst case scenario is that it will take you a few minutes and it won't work.
Otherwise have you got stuff you could sell, to help you get the debts going down (and you will feel like it is going in the right direction)?
Good luck on the rest of your journey V x (PS there is a thread called debt free roll of honour, if you want stories x1 -

2. When I started my diary we were months off drowning. Now we have enough in savings to clear it.
Dreams can come true. You just have to want it enough, and enough to out weigh the trivial spends. I've lost count of how many things I haven't bought over the years, but I also can't remember what I didn't buy. Apart from jumpers, and kittens (obviously)
hope that helps. It is worth it and things can change in minutesMy mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese
