PCP on vehicle

Hi Folks,
I’m hoping for some assistance or some advise so if anyof you can point me in the right direction it would be most grateful
I purchased a Jaguar F Pace in August 2020, haven’t missed a payment and I have been currently in negotiations with the dealer to swap the car over for a newer model using the equity I currently have in the car.
On 3/4/2023 whilst driving to work on the motorway the car developed a fault with what I can say was a 10 second warning, and safely trying to get the vehicle out of the lane I was driving in, the car suddenly lost power. I did manage to get onto the hard shoulder without any further accident happening, at this point I alerted the AA.
Thankfully the recovery driver took me to the closest Engine repair centre, and this is where the car currently resides.
I have spoken to the dealership and they are now not interested in speaking to me at all we’re very rude and didn’t want to hear the story, as I now have a this major issue with the car.
I have spoken to Jaguar finance on what my options are in the current circumstances, they have advised that if I can’t afford the £7788.00 inc vat.. to get it fixed. I can surrender my agreement but with the settlement figure still standing at £16k plus, the car will only be worth a small portion of this in its current state, therefore it may actually cost me more to surrender my agreement and pay off the remaining debt.
I have asked the Garage to start the repairs and they have informed me that they are not 100% sure the issue they think they have diagnosed can be fixed until they investigate further.
I’m now in a very difficult precarious position, as I’m willing to try and pay for the repairs, however if it can’t be fixed then I may face an even bigger bill and still be without a vehicle ??? As you can imagine I need some advice please…surely I have some kind of legal right or protection .. As you can imagine I don’t have this kind of money to throw around if the car needs to be scrapped..
Please 🙏🏻 help
Yours sincerely D.

when you say you had equity in the car - I presume the value of the car as a part-ex exceeded the balance of the finance?
what was the car valued ta then and now?1 -

Is the car under warranty? Is the fault something that the warranty should cover?1
-
Would this not be a warranty issue?
Given you are within the 3 year window.Life in the slow lane2 -
3 year warranty as standard. Was it not new when you purchased?

Can you clarify - presumably the car was 2nd hand when you bought in August '20 (otherwise it would still be under Manufacturer warranty)
Assuming it was 2nd hand then you've fallen into the trap of having an expensive (and potentially fragile) asset with no warranty/insurance against costs if something goes wrong. Many of us have been there and don't make the same mistake again.
Is the £7788 a quote from a Jaguar main dealer or is there a cheaper option ? Your only risk with a cheaper option (if there is one) is that Jaguar Finance are now aware of the issue and may take more notice of the state of the car shuld you subsequently choose to hand it back/VT the finance1 -
The facts given so far suggest a 2017 model.
Crankshaft failure is a common fault on the 3 litre engine. Not economic to repair, usually needs a new engine.
Sudden timing chain failure is common on early 2 litre models, due to a design fault. This is now remedied for cars made late 2019 onwards. Jaguar might be persuaded to fix this, or at least to contribute towards the cost.1 -

Hi there, the vehicle is second hand, the quote is not from Jaguar but from an engine centre in Telford, once it is fixed they give a 12,000 mile warranty or 12 months whichever comes sooner.

If the vehicle isn't under warranty then I think the next resort is consumer rights which would have to be enforced with whomever sold you the vehicle. If as Alderbank suggests the cars have a known inherent fault and this is what has caused your engine to explode then you may well have a claim.1
