Energy Bill Support Scheme

I’m confused over the Energy Bill Support Scheme refund; can anyone help please? I have been receiving the monthly £67 payment from my supplier, EDF, into my bank account. I’ve now just received my 6 month winter bill from EDF which shows that I have received a £400 refund. So far, so good. However EDF have included this refund in the amount that I owe to the company. So instead of being £300 in debt (the difference between energy used and the total of my monthly direct debits) my bill says that I am £700 in debt. So effectively EDF have given me £400 and are now wanting it back. Is that right? Was the Support Scheme refund supposed to be a loan to be paid back over the summer, or was it meant to be a discount?

Many people have confused with the EDF scheme.

Check your bank account as EDF will have paid the £66/67 back to the bank where the DD came from.

EDF billing every 6 months also confuses things.   The balance on the online account includes the balance at the last bill plus your DD's (and the £66/67 credits and debits)  but NOT the cost of energy.

Without seeing the actual paper work.

It looks like EDF credited the money to your account, but then sent to your bank so obviously if they sent you the cash it is not also used to credit your balance, else you would be getting £800 instead of £400.

EDF seem to have done this in a odd way which is likely to increase confusion, but what you posted sounds correct.
