House I rent isn't on National Grid

have lived in this property since 2019 (when it was built.) I have sent meter readings in and paid energy bills accordingly. When the winter payments came out I did not receive them. In January after months of chasing my current supplier (E.On) they said I didn't receive them because my address is not on the national grid. They said they were going to investigate it.
Today they have told me that they have looked into it and apparently British Gas were employed to set up energy here and didn't register it properly. They also said when they look up my meter number it says it's disconnected. I have not made any payments to E.on since January. I have asked them to send me an up to date statement, or asked if I should send meter readings in but they never respond. I signed into my online account and they haven't sent me any bills since January.
They have said I need to contact the "distribution network" to get my home registered. Wouldn't that be my landlords responsibility, not mine? Also, I may be moving next month, so not sure about final bills etc. I don't want to get hit with a hefty bill but I get the impression that they aren't bothered about billing me, until my house is considered connected and on the National Grid. Then again I don't really understand it all. Shouldn't the energy company send someone out to help? Would appreciate some advice..

My house number isn't on there at all. So when I enter my postcode to search, every other address on my street is on there except for mine.MattMattMattUK said:If you put your details in the links below what do you get?0 -
That does sound like what they are saying is true then, rather than just incompetence. For your own billing purposes raise a formal complaint, to protect yourself if nothing else, make sure you keep all your records of meter readings, pictures of the meter etc. Also inform your landlord. You will be billed for usage, but if you were paying up until January you are unlikely to have a huge bill land, make sure you are putting the money to one side rather than spending it.Bexswarbrick said:

I do agree about incompetence from my current supplier and British Gas. I have already made a formal complaint in January and they have only just told me that I'm not on national grid etc. I have been putting money to the side but I didn't receive any of the EBSS payments (£60 a month from oct-march) so paid full price until January. Why don't you think it's true then?MattMattMattUK said:

How have you been "paying bills"?

Sorry ignore my previous response. I thought you said it doesn't seem true. Yes it seems a mistake was made when the house was registered.MattMattMattUK said:

Yes, I was with British Gas when I moved in. Told them a few months after living here that I was switching. They said they couldn't find the address, I thought it was because it's a new build. I sent them meter readings when I left etc never received a final bill. Then E.ON took over, I paid them direct debit and they sent me bills from 2019 until this January when they realised something's not right (because they didn't give me winter payments of £60). Since then they've been investigating it and haven't sent me any bills. Even though I have asked many times.DE_612183 said:How have you been "paying bills"?0 -
It's odd - in order to send you bills they would need an MPAN or MPRN - which is the registered meter point on the National Database ( National Grid is something different - but I get your drift ).
On your bills does it have an MPAN or MPRN?0 -
Oh national database, not grid. Whoops! Yes it does, but they said the address for it is number 4 on my street, I don't live at number 4 someone else does. They also said yesterday that it says it's disconnected. you also need to check the meter numbers - could be that they are basing your "bills" on someone elses usage - sounds like a major c*ck up - good luck!
