Smart meter dosent tally with actual bill

Does the little display box calculate standing charges too? I thought the idea of that IHD was to give people a rough idea of how much they were using/spending so they could amend their usage accordingly.
I'm due to have a smart meter fitted in May but I don't expect it to reflect the same usage and prices as my bills. Is it wrong of me to think that they're not all that smart after all?
No need to answer, just rhetorical. Every time I've ever queried an energy bill, they've always been right. (I'm with Octopus). Now I just study the bills. They hold all the answers. For me, that is, anyway. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. I only focus my attention on power and usage.[Deleted User] said:
‘Should agree’ or might not? Power and usage will be accurate but cost may be wrong if the supplier has not updated the tariff information in each of the meters.RG2015 said:
The data on the IHD should agree exactly with your smart meter which in turn should agree with your bills.Ballydavey said:I didn’t know they was a difference to be fair 🤷🏻♂️so what’s the point of the little ihd then ?
The IHD allows you to monitor your usage and identify when you are consuming energy at a high rate. This is turn could allow you to target high consumption devices and trends and reduce them if possible.
My separate cashflow picks up the DD which has been in line with my usage for several years.
That said, my IHD has always been correct, (excluding the 8 months when the meter lost connection to the outside world!).0 -
Yes, the daily standing charge is added to the IHD cost. The meters are just meters that record usage in the same way as your present meter. The smart bit is the communications hub and the other built in monitoring functions such as Grid voltage and the fact that each register (there are 4) can record usage in 30 minute blocks.MalMonroe said:Does the little display box calculate standing charges too? The ‘weakness’ is that Octopus chooses not to update the tariff information for most of its time-of-use tariffs: it uses a single average unit cost. The statements though are very detailed.
