Car Hire Glasgow Airport

I’m thinking about hiring a car from the airport to use for a few days on a Glasgow visit.  My daughter will be driving.  It’s a long weekend visit and will involved family visits over the few days so a car would be handy.  I’ve searched and Booking.com came up with very cheap deals but mentions shuttle bus which I think I understand.  Is this the best thing to do?  Is there any other way?  Will there be extras to pay (e.g. the cheapest car is around £100 for the few days).  Any idea how to get the best deal in advance.  It’d be on a Friday around 6pm till the Monday at a similar time.  Any advice welcome, thanks.

Arnold Clark who are off-site are highly recommended.

Make sure you compare like for like when checking prices.

There are a couple of companies that are definitely best avoided, they are very good at finding damage on your return. Not sure if they can be mentioned here but happy to name them if so.  Book direct and not though a third party like booking.com

Do you need a hire car the day you arrive or could you pick one up on the Saturday morning for example?

Thanks for your prompt reply.  Because we need to get to the west end for dinner on the Friday, it would be handy to pick it up then.  Otherwise it’ll be a taxi which won’t be cheap.  And presumably the same again on the Monday.  I’m not quite sure where else we’ll be going and when but probably will visit my sister in Newton Mearns and my family in  Ayrshire at some point.  We originally thought to use taxis but then I had the idea of hiring a car to make the most of our limited time.   I’m originally from Glasgow but a bit old to be driving now but my daughter is happy to drive anyway.  I’ve heard of Arnold Clark so might give them a call.

I may well ask you for the names of those to avoid.

We have not done it for ages but always use Zestcarrental.com. Super customer service.

AC are a major league player in the Scottish car trade.
We've had cars from them for years.
After building up the business he couldn't resist the habit of working an odd shift and would drop in at a branch workshop with his lunchbox to help service vehicles with the other mechanics.
He was also known to wander into sales negotiations and offer customers additional incentives.

There is no reason to avoid Auto-Europe or Rentalcars.com who usually used to offer a better deal than booking direct.
