And you've tryed syncing contacts, copied them to the SIM, etc?
    Yes, it's a network issue.

I can see who I'm calling from my contact list. I just can't see it the other way when I receive a call...

Have you checked your settings on the phone app eg 'supplimentary services' and 'other call settings'

I guess it depends on the contract.  Is caller ID considered an essential function?  I'd argue it's a reasonable expectation.  Is your contract for SIM and device, or just the SIM?
Yes, if I have a missed call and they don't leave a message I have literally no idea who has called me...

My take on that is, it can't be important. So don't worry.
Disagree. My GP calls twice then you’re at the back of the queue again. That’s a call I’d quite like to know I’ve missed.

Perhaps tell them, to leave a message.

Doctors generally dislike leaving a message .
In any case I’d want to pick the phone up and speak with the doctor .
If I’m anticipating a call from the doctor I would not want to answer an unknown call and then find it’s from Fred to tell me his protracted tales about his recent fishing trip!

So the number doesn't even show in "Missed Calls" ? How do you know you've had a missed call?
I can see calls and missed calls. It just when either happen it says "unknown number"
Unknown number is usually where the person calling you has switched off "own number sending" on their mobile, or has a landline with this feature.

Have you tried calling the phone with another one that "sends" the number?

Have you tried the SIM in another phone? I suspect the issue is with the network but that would prove it was the case.
