I used to thnk like that, but I have to admit having the apps I want to use on the the TV (LG) - iPlayer, YouTube, Plex, Ch4 Catchup,  Live record etc - and all accessed/controlled using the same remote control makes life a lot easier.

Unless you want to watch ITV-X live, which isn't possible on an LG TV, but is on most other makes and sticks/boxes - go figure!

As I know nothing about this, can I ask why people buy smart TVs at all? Why not buy a dumb TV and an external box to do the smart stuff?

Then 5 years down the line you might need to throw away the smart box, but you can get another for a fraction of the cost of a new TV.

  You can program remote controls. You can have a single remote control with a full keyboard, that controls your TV and your other devices. This isn't a new development.

Anyone got a good word for Hisense?
    No, I thought not.
Had my 65" for 2.5 years no issues, would have another. For £500 no complaints.

    Had, done, hated.

Also, maybe the all-in-ones now allow control of the on-screen cursor, and the voice search, etc,  but I somehow doubt it.

I ended up getting a Philips 65” TV which is purely a screen rather than a smart TV. I use Sky / Firestick so that’s not an issue.

    So far, so good..

Have a look at Richer Sounds or John Lewis due to their 5 or 6 year guarantees.

Recently brought a Samsung from John Lewis due to the 5 yr guarantee.

Wouldn't recommend Panasonic, TV lasted just over 2 years before it completely died on us!
  • I prefer the televisions from Meizu, I can't explain why, but I like their design very much. They may lose out on features, matrices, displays, sound, and so on, but most of us don't notice that.

Yeah I like the fact they are designed like a tin of meat

I'm aware of that but you can't watch *live* TV via ITX-X on the LG 🤷‍♂️
