Which TV to buy

Hi guys,

I’m in the market for a new TV. Looking at a budget of around £1000. Ideally between a 65” and a 75”.

I’ve never had much luck with Samsung TV’s in the last. The functionality always seems to be super slow and get worse with age etc.

Any suggestions on a TV / deal?

Thanks

Have you seen the Amazon TV pre-order deal?

Amazon Fire TV 65" Omni QLED

£300 off £999 if ordered by Monday, no proper reviews out that I can find.

Not a recommendation, obvs, but worth a look?

What do you want for your budget aside from screen size?  Smart is pretty much granted

There are only really five TV manufacturers now - the mass manufactured by the likes of Vestal, Samsung, LG, Sony and the new Amazon Fire range, which are made by Foxconn.  Its only Samsung and LG that make their own TVs now.  Everybody else is repackaged Vestel products.

To be honest, I don’t need much from it. A nice clear picture, decent sound and a quick processing screen are the three main requirements.

we only use the tv for watching catch-up / fire stick type stuff so it won’t have a hard life.

the Samsung I have at the moment is around 18 months old but it’s super slow to respond.

Sound you can accommodate/replace with a soundbar if you must, so don't worry too much about that.

If you're use to the Fire Stick type interface (since you mention Fire Stick in your post) the linked Fire TV 65" looks identical to the Fire Stick.  So there wouldn't be a learning curve.

Plus at £1000 with a 30% discount and Pre-order Price Guarantee, so if it drops again...  It does get good reviews.  Plus you have cooling off.  Buy it, don't like it, send it back withhin 30 days.

If I was in the market I would seriously consider it.  Yes its Smart and would normally probably go dumb in about 5 years time but that's Smart TVs in a nutshell unfortunately.  However Fire TV stick apps are regularly updated and that's basically the Fire Stick on steroids so should have a longer shelf life smart wise.  In theory.

Never had a problem with Samsung TV's on my eighth now. Is the software up to date? You don't actually say how old it is, you can't compare an old one with the new UI.

Does Sony still not make their own products albeit their OLED screens are from LG?

Yes.  Philips aren't made by Vestel either.  I don't think the OLED Panasonics are Vestel.

Panasonic are made in various locations including Vestel. It depends on the market they are selling to, they have outsourced to plants in Mexico and India as well as Malaysia and the Czech republic. Some are owned by Panasonic others are 3rd party manufacturers.
Phillips are made in Poland, by Phillips.
The two main factors in a TV is the Panel and the software, which is where the bigger manufactures put a lot of time and effort, whoever 'assembles' their TV's.
